Dian Haasbroek
Dian Haasbroek is ESR7. His individual research project is “Laser processing of transparent and high-performance polymers: Embedded optical waveguides, surface texturing for prototype and hybrid moulds”.
Background:
Dian holds a masters degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Cape Town, and
has an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pretoria. Dian has graduate research experience, some of which was gained at the ETH Zurich, in polymer and biomaterial processing, analysis and manufacturing, and medical device design and prototyping. Some applications were injectable biomaterial therapies, surgical devices and artificial organs.
Research Interests:
Dian has developed a keen interest in novel medical device manufacturing methods that can be readily applied in industry. Ultra-fast laser processing of biopolymers piques particularly as it is a fast, highly effective, and affordable means of processing with the potential to disrupt the prototyping process of large-scale produced medical devices.
