Isabela Evangelista
Isabela Evangelista is ESR 4.Her individual research project is “Design and development of microstructures for low friction polymer surfaces in medical device applications”
Background:
Isabella has a masters in polymer engineering from the University of Minho. In her 4th year of studies, she
proposed to do an internship project at DONE Lab, a laboratory created in partnership with BOSCH Car
Multimedia and University of Minho, which focuses on the creation of products and solutions of systems
and tools through Research, Engineering Design and Digital Manufacturing.
In addition, in her 5th year, she decided to pursue this subject by doing her master’s thesis entitled “Development of functional materials for additive manufacturing, by means of material extrusion, of an interaction object”, in cooperation with DONE Lab. The thesis targeted the development of a thermochromic material with the purpose to be hand-user sensitive. The additive manufacturing outcomes as using the technique of material extrusion to produce a prototype of an interaction object. Optimization of the material extrusion’s techniques was also studied and performed to obtain the best
solution/final product.
Research Interest:
Besides Additive Manufacturing, Isabela is also interested in the sustainability area, project management and in R&D. Incorporating less material, optimizing parts, diminishing the weight of final products, or incorporating recycled material are a plus to add to a final parts. Since the beginning of her masters, she has had a particular interest in the medical filed applied to polymer materials, the world of prosthetics and the development of medical devices.
